Poetry Tuesday: Two Swedish Riddles

In honor of all my female Swedish friends–not all of them blonde–here’s two riddles from the ninth century.

Father’s sickle is hanging
on Mother’s Sunday skirt.

An old green witch
stands in a ditch.
Your hand will hurt
if you touch her skirt.
