Poetry Tuesday: Palace Poem

By Ts’ao Ching-chao (c.1620)

Bejeweled makeup, cloud-coiffure, training golden garments,

Small and dainty is the pose she strikes beside the door of jade.

A newcomer still unfamiliar with palace manners,

Head lowered, first she bows to the number one concubine.
